Truth is always out there?
The truth is a rare thing, whilst it can be comforting, liberating and revealing, it can provoke hostility as it can be dangerous not just to those who lie or benefit from a lie but also to those who are unprepared for being total wrong. Those who seek the truth they must be able to be careless with their pride, to sacrifice the sunk cost of the decisions made whilst living their lives according to a lie and give up the certainty that belief carries within it. It does not care whether you are right or wrong, whether you are ready to make the change that revealed truth might demand from you and it gives you no solid land to stand upon, as the truth is an ever changing island with shifts and upheavals that can knock you over without warning, seeking the truth is a costly businesses and the thing that is more expensive is living with lies.
You have to undertake a journey that does not have a fixed destination, there is no fable land of truth, it is constantly evolving, there is no solid land to stand upon. Even science is ever changing, as the evidence changes, science evolves in it's overall understanding, whatever the facts are as you understand it, they change at a rate that approaches five percent per year, but even if it was just one percent, given enough time that means everything changes. That is not to say that apples stops falling from trees, but even Newton did not know why, he described what was happening not why it was happening, and we still do not know why for sure. We have theories, good theories but that is all they are until we have truth and proof, it might be the effects of a time gradient, it could be tiny demons that are attracted to each other, we will not know until we know, and if you believe the first rather than the second, it is sobering to remember you are in a tiny proportion of human who ever lived who would, demons made a more sense to most people for most of our history, truth and even common sense changes over time.
We can not help our personal framing, it is baked into the time that we are born, who our parents are, we inherit the frame of knowledge that our family, friends and society have, that is our truth that we are born with, and there is no escaping it. When you are changing the frame of an entire society, it happens slowly and in increments, you build on previous ideas, words, concepts, a clever teacher never steps too far ahead, they might say where they are heading but they start at the beginning and take one step at a time. Though if you want to head towards the truth, there is no one teacher who has all the answers for every step of the way, beginners need a teacher who are further along the path than them but who are not on a different continent. A master forget what it was like for a student, what questions they had when they started, the fundamentals are part of them and they no longer remember that experience of learning them and how unnatural they can be.
That is why we build on knowledge, the fundamentals are only challenging for so long, it takes time before they become natural, part of your nature, no one remembers how they learnt to walk and if you are unlucky enough to have to relearn there is no point asking a doctor how to do so again, you want the person who had to do the same journey, who has had the same accident and experience to get through it. This might be dramatic but the same is true for anything you want to learn, and learning is the search for truth, it might be the truth of how to surf a wave, again there is no point asking a world champion, they have forgotten, you ask the person who has competence and can empathies with you, who is a thousand hours into learning rather than ten thousand hours. It is the people with competence that benefit from listening and learning from masters, there is always a chain built on experience and the different frames that comes from that experience.
Truth is always revealed in this way, before enlightenment you sweep and after enlightenment you sweep, but you do so with a new frame, a different view of what you are doing. The nature of sweeping changes, before it is a dull chore that you have to do because you have been told to, after it might be the door through which you experience the living process of your consciousness in all it's depth and beauty. You do not change that frame just by sweeping, it takes a lot of work and small steps in experience, you change your frame until the whole of your reality changes, the world is the same, it your view that changes. That is the journey that you undertake when you decide to discover the truth whatever it turns our to be.
It requires honesty at least with yourself, in your own mind and thoughts, it might not always be possible to live an honest life, there are parts of the world where doing so will lead to a very honest and very short life. Honesty does not mean hurting others or yourself, you are allowed to be kind and caring, for me that is a vital part, in Buddhism it is called morality, though some teachers call it not being asshole to those you care about, whichever is easier to remember, just make sure you practice it, some people really do not like being told they do not exist and nothing they do matters, I know, strange!
The path requires giving up your expectations and hopes, you might want the answers you find to bring you happiness, joy and a sense of completion, this is probably not going to happen, at best you might end up with better questions, at worst just a lot more questions. If you find any answers, they will be depressing, yes, you going to die and you will probably suffer either with the company of those who love or you will outlive everyone you love and die alone. Are you sure you want the truth, because it will be ugly and you will not like, you only seek it out of desperation because the cost of living with lies is even higher. That is the force that drives our natural curiosity, we are growing beings of consciousness and when we do not grow, we feel that lack, it might be experienced as purposelessness, it is when you are out of alignment with your nature as a being of growth, it kills you slower than thirst or hunger but it is just as deadly.
This seeking of truth is just part of the drive to live in alignment with our nature, because growth requires truth, both about the world in general and ourselves. We have to be honest about the effects of our actions on our happiness and health or we will drive ourselves into the grave, donuts might make us happy but not healthy, we might be told that constant stress is necessary, part of the job, but if it is killing you, you have to decide if it is worth it no matter the benefits. You have to aware of what opportunities you are giving up when you follow a certain path, whilst knowing every path costs something, and not taking one is giving up. The truth is not always beautiful but it can be simple and undeniable, once it emerges it is impossible to hide from and you have to live with the consequences and the failure to adjust to the new reality that it presents.
The truth is out there and it is coming for you, it will expose the lies that you currently hold dearly, and the word dearly is appropriate as that is what lies are, costs on your time and misdirected energy. It does not matter how long you have built your mega-church of beliefs for, once you know it has weak foundations, that grand building is coming down, the only question is whether entropy is going to make it crumble or whether you are going to be brave and drive the wrecking ball into your false assumptions. I do not know the truth and I have never met anyone who does, there are better answers out there, there are experiences worth having to experiment with your ideas, there are definitely lies and lairs acting in their own interests. The only hope I can give you that over time there are more people honestly searching for the truth, you do not have to be alone, you can have the company of heroes who are all on their own journey towards the truth, we can be seekers together, no matter how far we have to travel out there.
