Bring your light to emptiness?
In the whole of the universe, we are the only source of consciousness we know of, we bring the light to world so that it can know itself, and without us it would be just pointless emptiness, which is virtually all it is anyway. Indeed, despite appearances the universe is almost entirely empty, stuff, physical things make up an accounting error amount of volume whether you look at the large scale or dive into the microscopic level. The earth is a tiny island, a lifeboat compared to our vast ocean of a solar system, we are constantly falling through space and there is a lot of it, if the solar system was the size of Earth our planet be a grain of sand in comparison, and the space between solar systems is so vast it is measured in light years, which would in comparative terms make our solar system a grain of sand as well, it is really all just space and emptiness out there, we are the exception.
It does not get any better when we look inwards for some solidity, within any object, there is not much either, we find that it is just empty space again, each atom has only a small amount of hard material surrounded by invisible fields, the nucleus is again tiny compared to the emptiness that surrounds it. However what is amazing is not the illusion of the physical world, rather that we process the light that illuminate all this emptiness, space would be meaningless with our appreciation and projection of a solid, real world. Without us it would just be nothing, our ability to live in between these two great emptinesses, we are able to look up and down, and see, perceive that there is a vast space, that we are on the boundary, and that we bring light and meaning to the emptiness.
Our consciousness is the light that fills the world and before that light there was only darkness, nothingness, there was only mechanics, unwinding order like a clock running out of steam, it took our light to realise that anything was ticking by, it took our judgement to see the value in the pasting of time that created it, we decided what was worthy to capture our attention and awareness. There is so much that we do not notice, not that it is unimportant but because it does not need our attention, we are standing on a thin layer of solid rock and underneath that is twenty six thousand miles of molten lava that would vapourised in a moment, and we give it virtual no attention (unless you are next to an exploding volcano), it does not make us afraid, suffer from vertigo or crawl on to the floor for fear of slipping in. For much of our history we did not even know it was there, yet it is vital for our existence, that we even exist in the first place, but it is not important in our everyday life, however when we bring our light to it, our awareness and knowledge we can be awed and amazed by it, we bring our consciousness to it and it becomes meaningful, metaphorically, it expands our awareness and whilst it requires that initial attention, our curious awareness to start the reaction, when we use awareness it increases awareness, light creates more light and that is why the children can ask why forever.
That is the beauty of human consciousness it expands at the speed of light if you allow it, if you actively stoke the fires, there is no limit to how far you can increase your awareness, that is what all that space is there for, to accommodate the vastness of your consciousness, you are a being of growing consciousness and awareness. This is not a figure of speech it is the definition of what your underlying purpose is, the meaning of your life, the worth in a life and what the flow of life is there for, and whilst expansion for the sake of expansion does not feel like an immediately satisfying answer, it is not definite or comfortable, it is not achievable in the sense that we get to finish, we do not get to be done, and we will have thing that are left undone even in the whole of a lifetime, it does mean that the possibilities are endless.
To find peace with who we are, we have to get use to never having a feeling of completeness, and many people (if not all) feel that incompleteness as a painful thing, that is not to say we do not get to achieve thing in life, that we never get to cross the finishing line in anything, we do get to finish a task (some big, some small) it is just that they are never our purpose, they are just missions, jobs and tasks. You might get to write a book, break a world record, win a Nobel prize, these are all good things to do, they are just not your purpose or have meaning, other than marking an achievement, it was always the journey towards those goal that was the purpose. What was important was bring our light to the journey to the emptiness of ignorance, it is the expansion of our light, awareness and consciousness that matters, if we got those prizes by accident without the action of our light shining they would not matter, and as most people who achieve anything knows, the achievement itself does not matter, it is what we had to do to get it that does and that is why once you achieve something you most important thing is to find the next thing to pursue.
However knowing that the bring of the light, the continuous expansion of our light is what matters means that we know what to do to feel in alignment with our purpose and meaning, and that it is available in everything we do, even the simplest chore, that is what the mindfulness movement is about and so many other movements like minimalism, financial independence, weight training. They all expand our consciousness, they shed light on our own experience as we are having them, they bring light into what we are doing and why, we see more and experience more, that is even what meditation is, it brings light into the very core experience of just being alive, having sensory experience.
It does not really matter what you do except to you, what is important is that light is always there if you choose to see and use it, and the more you do so, the more light there is, it never stops or diminishes, it only expands when we wish it to and find why it matters to us that we bring the light to it. That is not to say you will not have important missions in your life, a full life should overflow with them, whether it is your family, friends, work, play, it is just to say that you should never stop being mindful of whether you are growing your own light, expanding it as much as you can. By holding this model in your mind, by physically and repeatedly bring the light of your consciousness to every moment you will enrich your life, you will be alignment with your true nature, but it is down to you to do so because that light is your sole responsibility, only you can grow, protect and treasure it, only you choose if you are looking towards the light and if you ignore it that is your loss no one else’s, as the light in your life is down to you, whether the emptiness grows or the light is the difference between a life wasted or well spent.
